NPR was disturbing this morning – covering the antics of Ashcroft and such. I’m starting to think I should be tuning into mindless bubblegum in the mornings like Bob & Tom, or Howard Stern (god forbid) instead of our ritual morning coffee klatch with Diane Reames. I find myself getting so irritated after listening that it’s tainting my world-view.
But is it better to bury my head in the sand of pop-mass-media, (the worm*), and be lulled into numbness… Or?
There’s a balanced line to walk somewhere, I’ll find it.
I’ll be bribing mojobear today to assist in creating a prettier template for this blogness. With cheese and sexual favors in my arsenal of persuasion, I’m sure he’ll give in and help the old man out.
A large stack of little-shit projects has hit my desk, so I’m currently gratefully occupied and under compensated.
*the worm = word used to describe the seemingly sentient force that guides, and molds public interests and perspectives via everything we consume in our culture.
end of line
Saw chrisglass off on Saturday. Always sad to see him go, however, per-tradition he always leaves things behind, so we have plenty of Chris artifacts laying around to remind us of him. (including randomly placed beer bottle caps which I’m still finding).
Sunday – got the first coat of stain on the closets in the front of the house on. Stood around marveling at the miracle briefly before scooting out of the house to go to Laumier Sculpture Park for a little “cultural hike” to soothe babybear’s cabin fever.
I’m giddy about the new digital camera.
Baby had to be to work this morning at 5am, so we all got up.
I need more coffee.
Now – I’ve goofed off the entire day with this… However, it could be argued that this is more productive than mindlessly surfing porn.
After reading the fine print, it seems I’ll have to throw down some cash to change the look of this. The built-in styles aren’t doing it for me.
So… After spending a few more hours putza-futzing around in my illustration program. I’ll have to issue a quick appologetic rant to my peer chrisglass.
We share very similar design sensibilities.
And after throwing some layouts around on my machine, everything looks fucking “Glassian”. So please accept this preemptive apology for anything looking like I ripped it directly from him. But…
(here comes the RANT)
In the incredibly LIMITED medium of “INTERNET DESIGN” – I’m realizing something:
There are a just a wee number of formulas / solutions (designs) that actually work and look good.
Rest assured I’ll be trying to be as anti-glassian as possible without making downright stupid design decisions.
Hell – I love a challenge.
I’d just rather be putting this together on sexy silky stock, with spot-varnishes, metallics (sparingly of course) and other things that us “Neanderthal Tradesmen” love so much.
*jesus – could I sound any more defensive?
Wait… That’s what this BLOGY-POP is for right? I betcha if I rant, piss and spit enough I’ll find some sort of peace about this issue, and countless more.
In the great dot-com craze, we sat and let the hype bus pass us by and it’s times like this that I really start to feel like a fossil.
chrisglass assures me that once I get the hang of it, (oh yeah, and learn some HTML), this the LiveJournalâ„¢ process will slip right on and wear like a comfy pair of socks.
Hmmmmmmmm… We shall see….. White boy.
Today we shall wrestle with the personal settings, (instead of work on something billable).
