team cambodia

Stay-in and entertain kinda weekend… The still before the storm? (the ice storm that’s coming as well as the socially dense week ahead: valentines day, mardi gras, etc).

Friday night with Elise had a nice twist to it… She brought her brother John along.

We had to pry the Wii remote from the trauma doc’s hands at around 1am… He’s a hoot… “Go team Cambodia!” (long story).

I think he’s going to get one too now… So that makes something like four or five people who have come over, played the Wii and were so impressed they ran out and bought one.

I’m not expecting a commission check.

well.. if you’re listening Nintendo – two more controllers would be nice eh?

never-mind – i’m babbling.

eleven

Yeah – so our god son turned…. eleven.

Birthday party included Elise’s brother, parents and Andy’s sister, kids and his parents.

Eleven….

I mean it really doesn’t feel like over a decade ago that I was running out with the then prego devcubber for our ritualized afternoon carb binge at this little restaurant client we had who paid for their graphic identity with metric tons of tortellini.

Soon the boy is going to start smelling funny and resenting adults.

In preparation, we’ve started preparing our covert safety net:
We’ve been trying to frame ourselves as just “contrary enough” to the “rule-of-mom” – so we’ll hopefully continue to be seen as the “cool guys”… a refuge from “mean ole mom”…

Of course Elise isn’t mean – she’s a typical mom… Concerned guidance just turns into iron-fisted oppression through the teenage reality filter.

So our theory is if *he* perceives us as advocates into the turbulent times ahead, (and if he even feels compelled to rebel and run off), he’ll “escape” to us… rather than retreating through bad friends, situations, choices, etc.

Watch – he’ll be an angstless angel in the years to come and all this well-intended mind-fuck chess will be for naught.

Eleven…

what was I babbling about?

2007

Happy new year!… It’s going to be too I bet.

Third time’s the charm for making a tradition isn’t it? Regardless… This is the third year we’ve celebrated the new year with devcubber and family at Castle-VanCrippen.

Brother John the ER doc was there again… and like last time treated us to a slightly inebriated, hand-held pyrotechnics show in the front yard while we burned the Christmas tree…

Center-stage at dinner: beer-in-the-butt chickens from the grill and Andy’s incredible shrimp fajitas. Elise had home made goodies too like cookies and these really good, amorphous cheese potato puff pancake things.

Didn’t make any solid *resolutions* this time around… We were going to quit dairy for the first quarter of 2007 just to see what would happen… but we failed to find a compelling enough case to abandon milk juice.

I’m not obsessing about anything at the moment.
