icy blues and v.w.s

Don – a.k.a. “woofer”

Slowly but surely I’m getting to the loose ends we need to wrap up to finish JJ’s new site. I was able to catch the last employee I had to take some snaps of – Woofer, the barback.

Woofer is a retired career Army man – who’s specialty was K9s. The irony here of course is he was dubbed “woofer” long before he was out, (of the military and otherwise).

We met him shortly after he retired and moved to St. Louis. At that time he was still a sheepish “new guy” – but thanks to a stocky build, ice-blue eyes and “aww shucks” midwest personality, he was quickly embraced and made friends…. Later getting hired by the bar – the perfect job for a 40-something returning college student.

Don can come off a little abrasive at times, but he means well. When you’re in the Military for 20 something years, you loose out on the decades of the “nice-guy sugar coating skills” most of us perfect by our 30′s.

The biggest thing I love about Woofer? – He filled a void in our friend Matt’s life. The moment they met we all could tell they had a thing – but through mutual denial took damn near a year to declare themselves boyfriends. Now, years later, they’ve settled down and own a great house together and one rental property.VW Corrado

The other thing I have in common with him besides adoring Matt? He too suffers from VW-sickness. But the lucky bitch owns an old Corrado… his “baby”. *The Corrado came out in the early 90′s and replaced my teenage object of auto-lust – the Scirocco. I’ve never owned either. Despite our pledge to never buy another traditional gasoline powered car again – I suspect a midlife crisis will strike with a vengeance and I’ll wind up owning one before I’m 40.

I’m in for a treat though… I get to “babysit” Woofer’s car while they travel to Europe for three weeks next month.

I feel like I’m 16 again.

I feel like I’m blogging…

huh.. impossible.

it’s a bird, it’s a plane,

no.. it’s three tubby guys wearing spandex

Due to the overwhelming requests as a result of the post I didn’t make yesterday displaying the surface of our icebox, (and that I spend the entirety of yesterday running from one meeting to another AND overall spring malaise kept me from observing and documenting anything particularly interesting.)

Nonetheless – I give you a close up of the photo of our Haloween 2002 Fantastic Four costumes.

It’s amazing what you can do with long johns, fabric die, really cheap snow boots, a can of white spray paint and a few trips to the fabric store.

We won the costume contest at JJ’s that night…. It seemed only the comic book geeks got the “Invisible girl” joke.

huh..

oh yeah – I’m not blogging cause I’m goin back to sleep. (today’s my Wed off)

cheers.
