Veering just a wee bit off-topic.
But the mentality documented here is just one pew over in the Church of WTF.
Thanks to a post by dr_tectonic – I’m processing this a little more.
What do motorcycles, ex-cons and their slow-poke, (albeit very hot), sons have anything to do with soda pop?
Of course.. absolutely nothing.
Look at children’s marketing / merchandise… What do talking ponies have to do with lunch boxes… or the act of eating for that matter? Try to force-draw connections and you’ll give yourself the willies.
In my youth – Clash of the Titans had absolutely zilch to do with the hard-salami sandwich, (white bread, with the crusts intact please and a dollop of yellow mustard) my mother lovingly made for me every day.. But it was all over my lunch-pale… which I coveted and used till the hinges fell off.
hmmm.. so I’m starting to think that I haven’t been attacking “mindless patriotism” per-say, as much as the contextless idiocy which is contemporary advertising & marketing.
It doesn’t get sinister until you try and wrap your head around the big-picture motivations behind the whole Patriot-Pop-Con phenomena, who it’s being sold to and what it stands for by the camp selling “it” the hardest. (The current administration).
To this day I don’t care much for hard salami.
To this day I still deny having a blog.
