Jeremiah Corbett

My pop pinged me this morning on messenger..

He’s an expert at devil’s advocacy and what would normally just be a friendly cyber exchange turned into an hour long chat about the separation of church and state and the origin of western values.

The old man knows I’m waist-deep in my “idealistic 30′s” and delights in throwing a monkey-wrench in my painstakingly maintained mental construct of how I think things are “supposed” to work.

He broke the cerebral crap by giving me a LINK– maintained by a near-far relative who’s a professor at my alma mater. Ironically – I graduated from this university and never met the guy…. Although I grew accustom to faculty and staff regularly asking, “Hey – are you related to Bob?”

My stock answer became: “Yes… we’re related, but not enough to exchange Christmas cards”.

I’ve always had a morbid curiosity about genealogy…. It’s probably a form of latent biological guilt because I’m the end of my family line. (our particular branch at least). Nonetheless, the older I get – the more interested I become.

I remember hearing the story about my “x”-great grandfather as a boy… It was nice to read a more detailed account.

I snagged the photo from the site – it’s a decent size scan but don’t know if I’ll be able to pull a print out of it or not. If I can, I’ll hang it in our home.

I wonder if Jeremiah kept a journal… if he did, I wonder if he denied it.
