I suppose I’m obliged to comment on last night’s Mars sighting. To be honest, I was expecting it to appear a lot closer. If you’ve overheard any atro-geeks talking, you’d swear the big Red Planet would be so close you could discern the remains of Val Kilmer’s career on the surface.

Nonetheless, it was the brightest thing in the sky, and to think about how rarely this occurs made us feel a little “small” in the grand-time-space continuum picture. (woops – sounding like the astro-geeks I was trashing above).

Uniqueness of the moment duly noted.
