Friend Jay blipped me an instant message this morning wondering if I’d like to have lunch and see his new apartment which is right around the corner from our studio.

Jay, who I spent a lot of time with in my formative 20’s, is the most eccentric party favor in the proverbial grab bag of weirdoes I call my friends. I accredit my strangeness, in part, to his influence – and the rest to my father (Y-Chrome Donor).

Jay is a tenured Art Teacher for a suburban public elementary school. It’s important to note that decades of paste and tempera paint fume inhalation has not turned him into what you’d imagine would be a complacent pubic school system automaton. He’s still excited about teaching.

We zapped over to The Hill and nabbed some sandwiches and headed back to the new pad. Nice place… A spacious two-story, two bedroom for a monthly fee which would make SF folks cringe with envy.

Jay has two easily detectable obsessions. Heywood Wakefield Furniture and Hindi Film. We chatted over lunch and watched some Bollywood musical release which I can’t even begin to define. Their film industry is obviously influenced by the west – but there’s plenty of traditional Indian culture mixed in. Culturally speaking, it’s like looking at ourselves in a carnival fun-house mirror.

I keep bugging Jay to start a blog. His obscure humor and intimidating intellect would make him a good read. But, typical of his generation, he’s antsy about new technology.

He was also quick to point out that I don’t have one, so why should he?

*smart ass rat bastard.. I love him.
