”so close” – Columbia / TriStar

Alright – once again – I get to reveal just how big the rock is that we live under.

“ya’ll heard of Netflix?” – well… We had in passing, I don’t know, like year ago? (all you mega-hip left-coast bastards stop snickering).

Nonetheless – they were mentioned one morning during my soap-up with NPR and so I finally went and signed us up for a free trial.

IT’S FUCKING BRILLIANT.

(If you’re un-cool like us: Twenty bucks, you go online, you surf through a collection of like EVERYTHING that’s ever been put to DVD, make your little list and they send them to you.. When you’re done – you pop it in the clever little send/receive pre-postage-paid mailer and they send you more from your list).

We sat Chad down and showed him how it works… The next day I logged in and found he’d been busy. (see end of entry).

While I’m raving about Netflix – they’ve got a kick ass selection of Hong Kong titles. If you like that sort of thing – rent “So Close”… Wonderful choreography, decent story, secret agent oriental ass kicking babes with an underlying lesbian sexual tension…. *what’s not to love?

Seems like the Hong Kong movie-machine is getting more experimental… Like other progressive cinema… Going outside of the traditional scene-by-scene approach.. I don’t know what it’s “called” – but the directors are enhancing the narrative with funky split-screens and stuff.. (it’s almost like bringing graphic design into the film genre – which obviously interests me).

Note to self: Discuss this concept with xenohomo before he vanishes to the wilds of SF.

Second note to self: Don’t blog about Hong Kong film & the joys of Netflix. and whatever you do… don’t do something stupid like post your active cue of films
