halloween

jim corbett v.2.0

The last 48 hours have been a blur… (in some respects, literally).

In preparation for our trip, we spent most of the day cleaning and packing.

Halloween is my dad’s birthday – so we had arranged for him to come over once the trick-or-treaters have come and gone.

“Family” (albeit disbanded and broken) Tradition dictates we have chili every Halloween… no.. not just any chili… It has to be Edmon’s Chili. (It’s similar to Cincinatti Chili without the cinnamon taste.)

Edmon’s is a local company that operates out of a little South-St. Louis house turned chili factory. (they’ve been in business so long that grandfathering keeps them from residential / commercial zoning conflicts).

I didn’t have time to stop by the factory during the week but figured I’d find some at a local grocery store…. wrongo!

Three trips to different stores, failed (and humorous) Google Results and a few phone calls later – I finally tracked some down.

By 6:30pm the house filled with the familiar aroma from my childhood…. Now it was really Halloween…. (Even-though not a single trick-or-treater showed up…. wee.. more candy for us.)

Dad and his buddy Bill arrived around 8pm. All things considered, pop is pretty well maintained for 56. I’m glad we could hang out with him for his birthday.

We sat around and shot the shit for hours and pigged out before parting and turning in early since we had an early start the next day.

Yesterday was spent hurling ourselves through Illinois,… Indiana…. and a good portion of Ohio.. We’re at Kevin’s sister’s now.

I’m trying to recover from the inertia from the last couple of days.

I’m not blogging.
