danvers dave

In Danvers, MA – we stayed with Dave – a friend who I made over this here internet thingie a good… wait… *choke*… urr.. uhhh… nearly 10 years ago.

One of the first trips Kevin and I ever took together was to Boston to visit at that time MIT graduate Mr. Tony (*guy who’s wedding we went to) and Dave and his then partner Ron.

Dave still lives in the same place – an attic-converted apartment atop an old three-story new-england house… (formerly an orphanage? – dunno) … To ascend to his pad, you pass through screen-enclosed porches and usually his landlady who’s out reading.

Every time we’d stop and chat with her I’d get this strange Tales of the City vibe about the whole arrangement.

His apartment itself is cute as hell but may seem strange to the uninitiated… Think if Anne Frank had a budget, a knack for decorating and an extensive collection of bear tchotckies and Joan Crawford memorabilia…. yes… surreal…. but just like Dave’s personality – endearingly / wonderfully unique.

Dave: A sawed off, heavily tattooed hairdresser with a porn star body and a mouth like Ethel Merman.

His new roommate is a kitty he got from one of his clients… “Radcliffe”

Come to find out Radcliffe is a Maine Coon as well and his personality / trait similarities to our Loki were uncanny.

Enjoyed the evenings out on Dave’s deck which made us feel like we were sitting in the tree tops…

48 hours really just wasn’t enough – we need to go back sometime when we have more chicken.

Back catching up on documenting the road trip.

Left Maine…. Drove to Danvers, MA to see our friend Dave.

Spent a couple of days…. Maybe more on that later (?)

One of the days we spent the afternoon in Salem. Of particular interest: we strolled around a cemetery with stones dating as far back as the 1600’s.

I’d like to know the origin / meaning (outside of the obvious) of the skulls with wings we saw everywhere.

Saw really old houses…

… really old artifacts…

… really old chickens…
