driven

Road construction made getting through our favorite state in the whole wide union (Indiana) a joy… and about two extra hours.

Wound up not getting into Kevin’s sister’s till nearly midnight.

Road fatigue be damned – we stayed up and talked till about 2am.

Snarfed down some donuts and coffee the next morning and were back on the road by noon.

New York is a very…….. very…… very…. long state.

None of us had a actually driven through it before… it was wierd – we all had our own preconceived, completely inaccurate notions about what it would be like…. (Way more rural than we had envisioned)

We must have been putting ourselves in a collective trance or something – because the day just whizzed by along with the scenery outside.

A portion of last nights leg of the journey was spent doing our typical neurotic search for a non-chain, local, unique place to eat.

They don’t sign things off the New York turnpike very well though – so we started getting desperate for food and finally gave up and decided to just stop at a Petro Truck Stop and eat.

Just off the exit at Seneca Falls, NY … yup.. we found the Petro and there… just beyond it – was this cedar paneled barn looking thing called “Magee Diner”

Eureka.

We passed the Denny’s in trucker’s clothes and hit the local eatery.

The place had good grub including “Pig Wings”.. get this… pork short ribs… parboiled (I assume) and then breaded, deep fried and then served with the most interesting eastern-variation of a Buffalo Wing Sauce I’ve ever tried.

I’m not a rib fan – but tried them and thought they were good.. The guys LOVED them.

I had a coney dog with something called “Missouri Sauce” on it…

I’m sitting in the Best Western Lobby in (insert obscure town) in Massachusetts and the guys are glaring at me to go.

So I better get chicken.
