I don’t actually know if Doug gets into watersports… it just struck me as funny.
Saturday night was the every other blue moon we go out and one of Chad’s co-worker’s birthday. Her birthday wish? Go boozin with the bears at the dark spooky man-bar.
We lucked out and ran into our old friend Doug, ( a.k.a. Soundbear ) – out who is currently in town doing the sound for Wicked.
We met Doug last century when a work gig brought him to St. Louis seasonally to run the sound at The Muny for a couple of summers.
He fell right into our, at that time mighty tight, happy hour click.
The click’s since de-rezzed… Core couples have split up… Others have become full-time nose-candy mongers…. and others…. well… they formed triads and moved out to the suburbs into mid-century modern homes to nest.
Originally a Missouri-Boy, (Kansas City), Doug relocated to NYC years ago to pursue his career in theatrical sound and “stuff”. He’s got that signature New York kurt-to-the-point-tough-guy exterior that a lot of folks would either perceive as intimidating… or rude…. but… well… It could be just us – but a hug, tickle and a smile is all it takes and the big ole scary biker guy turns into a big ole blueberry muffin. (You can take the boy outa missouri – but you can’t necessarily take the missouri outa the boy).
Though we’ve kept in touch via the net – it was great to actually “see” him again… which added to the said debauchery of Saturday night and the extremely LATE wake-up time I had on Sunday.
which… leads to this blog entry… which doesn’t exist.
