Monday night darts poker saw a new face and a new set of wheels.

Kiwi’s beau Wooferâ„¢ came which I don’t know breaks a Monday Boys’ Night tabboo or not.

Elise and Leah would probably argue “yes” – but Don did just fine farting, cussing and throwing poker chips with the best of ’em.

Sorry girls…

As if having a regional bear subculture celebrity wasn’t enough extra testosterone for the night… Steve brought his “baby” to show off:

A 1955 Chevy Bel Air which he restored through his teenage years.

The car has been in storage for over a decade back home in his native up-state New York… His folks loaded her.. (him?) – onto a trailer and drove down a couple of weekends ago.

I find the disconnect between Mid 20th Century architectural and automotive design sooooo curious.

P.S. – speaking of cars…. Mine’s all fixed now.. clutch and a rear brake job for 1600… ouch – but could have been worse….

so this is the SUV’s death dance

The NEW 2007 Jeep Compas Clown Car

I mean…. have you seen one of these things yet?

There’s a kind of belligerent denial to The Jeep Compas’ design… sorta like the irksomeness of a salt and peppered man who dies his facial hair black.

You can almost see the hulking, piggy dinosaur of our near future’s past heaving into itself… Reluctantly contorting into something smaller and more efficient.

They… umm… yeah… so then I finished my creative writing course.

sheesh.

Anyway… this notion also applies to (but not as strongly), to the new Doge Caliber.

no babbling… (with or without flowery language).

alright.. curiosity satisfied.

*I just got back from taking one from a spin since I had to drop Kevin back off at the dealership.

It just didn’t drive like a Volkswagen…

The verdict:

It’s a friggin Ford Tempo in Lederhosen.

NICE styling… Clean, (but plastique-cheep feeling) inside…. visibility wasn’t great inside either… leading to a sense of insulation… which… Is exactly the feeling you get from driving it… “insulated” and completely no connection to the outside world.

Why do American cars all drive like that?

Metaphoric for so many other things American…

Pish.

I’m waxing knee-deep profound – not blogging.

found on road dead

I think companies that shut down completely for the week between Christmas and New Years have the right idea.

Although having a quiet week with the bosses out of town is great for enjoying those long stretches of uninterrupted focus is… well.. NICE.

Kevin had to take the boss’ living room in for service and needed a ride back… so I followed him to the dealership.

While waiting – I poked around in the showroom…

Mark the date:
For the first time… EVER… There’s a Ford / Mercury product I actually “like”…. It’s called a “Milan”… and no wonder I like it… I looks like a 3rd generation Passat.

This is only tempting and worth pausing because…

1) I’ve mandated that my next car will be of the mid-size, quazi-cushy, sedan variety… Ideally a Passat….. (cush appointments… crunchy engine: TDI)

but….

2) I’m turned off by the new redesigned Passat’s body design.

We’re not in the market for a new car right this second anyway… But it’s on the horizon – so I may loiter after dropping Kevin off and ask for a quick test drive.

I wonder if the salesman will think me odd if I ask to be closed into the trunk so I can try out the”emergency trunk release” pulley… A curious feature… nonetheless it’s molded out of glow-in-the-dark material.. a nice touch.. (When did Ford hire Germans to start designing their cars!?!?!)

When did I start acting like I had a blog?
